Friday's Feast

Appetizer
What time do you usually wake up each day? If you could choose your wake-up time, when would it be?
7:15
10:00

Soup
When was the last time you bought groceries? What store did you go to? Name 3 things you purchased.

Today.
Nob Hill.
Newman's O's, pluots, a four-pack of Tejava.

Salad
How many books have you read so far this year? Which was your favorite and why?
Not nearly enough as my to-read stack shows. All told, I've probably read 5. I'm not good with favorites of any kind, but the first book that comes to mind is Hypocrite in a Pouffy White Dress. It bordered in chick lit, but with a heavy feminist approach to all things girlie. The author is close to my age, so the pop culture references were like taking a walk back through my childhood, teen and young adult years. Plus, she's just damn funny.

Main Course
What is something you consider to be very elegant? In particular, what about that item/place/person conjures up the feeling of elegance?
Audrey Hepburn. Her grace, poise, style all embodied my idea of elegance.

Who taught you how to drive?
My dad, when I was about 11 or 12. He'd get out of the car (stick shift, mind you) and let make me drive home from the mailbox (about a 1 1/2 miles). That was an advantage of living in rural Nevada. When I got my permit, my father enjoyed making me drive in snow storms (as the roads were being closed behind us), over mountain passes with big rigs on either side of us, on windy roads with black ice, on washed out dirt roads with giant pot holes, on the Pasadena freeway in Southern CA, with and without 4WD, over dead animals or sometimes live ones (rule #1, do not swerve for any animal - thanks, Dad)...pretty much any conceivable road hazzard one might encounter in a lifetime. I think I'd been driving for a solid year before I even got my license as my good friend was a year older but a horrible driver*. So, whenever we went anywhere, I always drove her car, figuring we'd be safer with me driving unlicensed, than her driving with a license. All told, I'm a pretty good driver, even according to the opposite sex.

*In her defense, her grandparents gave her a stick shift for her first car and never taught her how to drive it!

The Law According to Murphy

Today we hoofed it around The Mall. Again. I am 1 part too excited about the weather to go underground to take the Metro and 2 parts too phobic to ride the Metro as the Grown Up In Charge. The last time I was in DC, I was a whopping 17 years old and being led around by the Close Up Foundation . The biggest responsibility I had was deciding what color I wanted them to make my hair at Commander Salamander . So, we walked. And, truly we're just a few block from the Capitol. However, if you've been to DC, you know that the Capitol and, say, the Washington Monument are a smidgen apart from one another...like a mile-long smidgen. And, if you know me then you know that I am the world's number one couch potato. In fact, there are many times I don't even go all the way to the couch as it's just too far from my oh-so-comfy bed. God bless Tempur - pedic . There's a point in here. I swear. I'll get to it eventually. First, I must also explain that we had plans to meet...

Unacceptable

The only solution to my blogging debacle, to date, is the revert back to a standard template, without any of the bells and whistles that make my blog MINE. What is the point of a blog that is not MINE? How ironic is it that the NaBloPoMo theme for this month is "voices"? Today's post brought to you by the discourteous folks at Google who cannot be bothered to help the multitudes experiencing this problem. Thanks. Really. From the bottom of my heart. You guys are the best. Smooches!
